The Boat

1980 34' Marine Trader Double Cabin

This boat has only 622 actual hours on the engine.  She was used as a floating "summer cottage" on Lake Erie and stored every winter.  The interior is so 1979 but in great condition as the previous owners rarely used her and kept her clean and tidy.  The oven, thirty-two years old, has never been used.  Still I think that Lasse doesn't mind so much that the interior is clean...as I do.  He keeps on preaching safety and seaworthiness and so on and so on...

Thirty-two year old boat means that his list is long now.

We spent some time on the phone with Brian Smith at American Diesel and he helped to determine a favorable solution for the big fear that the head gasket is damaged.  He was right and Lasse flushed the cooling system five times with great results.  Now the coolant is bright and green like jade.

The water heater is leaking so for the time being there'll be no hot showers.

The rudder's hydraulic cylinder is leaking so he can't steer the boat; but boy, he can maneuver with the bow thruster in an emergency.

The marina's Wi-Fi is weak so we haven't had the internet while on the boat.  I can take my laptop up to the office and it works fine there.  Lasse now plans to make an antennae which will work in marinas and during the journey.
